Elysa Bryen, College Counselor

Elysa graduated from the University of Chicago with degrees in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and Public Policy. While at UChicago, she also worked in career services and was on the board of MUNUC, one of the largest Model United Nations conferences for high school students. Her passion for studying Arabic and supporting high schoolers merged when she moved to the Dubai to serve as a college counselor for international students. Elysa’s Dubai-based students received acceptances from universities around the states including Brown, University of Pennsylvania, New York University, UNC Chapel Hill, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Mount Holyoke, Colgate, UC Berkeley, Pomona, and more. After leaving Dubai, she went on to volunteer with, and then lead, a college access organization supporting higher education pathways for students from conflict zones. Here she supports over 150 Syrian and Iraqi students as they pursue full scholarships around the world.

Having worked with international students for five years, Elysa is fully versed in “translating” the college admissions process to new contexts. She will also argue that she is fully versed in proper Emoji use (we’ll let you decide that for yourselves). When she’s not cheering on students from around the world, she can be found sleuthing the AllTrails app for new walking paths in Metro-Detroit, throwing paint at canvases, and attempting to bake egg-free, gluten-free, dairy-free desserts – suggestions welcome.
