In her 16 years at the University of Michigan, Julie held the position of Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions, evaluated over 20,000 college applications, and earned her master’s degree in higher education administration. You read that correctly—Julie has spent as many years working in university administration as most of her students have been alive, making her the perfect person to guide high schoolers through the complexities of filling out the Common App, writing supplemental essays that stand out, and knowing exactly what to say in that conversation with an admissions officer. In fact, it’s safe to say that she wrote the Michigan rulebook for interactions between students and admissions officers—for five years, she was responsible for training the admissions officers who visit high schools and speak with students about what it means to be a Wolverine. Her insights from spending over a decade and a half inside the admissions office of a highly selective university like Michigan give her a rare level of expertise that allows her to advise each of her students on how to bring every aspect of their applications to life.
Given this impressive list of credentials, it may not surprise you to learn that Julie brings the same level of intensity to her personal life. When she’s not counseling students, you can find her running half marathons and Tough Mudders, eating all of the mint chocolate chip ice cream, and cheering on her husband and daughters while they practice for their inevitable future appearance on American Ninja Warrior in their homemade ninja gym (yes, we’re serious).

What are people saying about Collegewise?
Collegewise was perfect for the help I needed with my applications! My essays were always sent back to me within a timely manner, and I never felt like I was forgotten about. I also loved that I was encouraged to never submit an essay that I was not proud of or happy with. I had a great college application process.
We loved working with Collegewise! They are extremely knowledgeable of the college admissions “do’s and don’ts” space and made the daunting process actually enjoyable. Collegewise kept Ryan on task and worked with him to keep him focused and make the best use of his time during the sessions.

Collegewise provides superior resources that are essential to your child’s college decision, and there is no better way to prepare (and then guide) your student in the college selection process. Collegewise is the first step in the right direction, and without question a great decision for our family.
Mary Beth Thornton, Parent of Emma Thornton
Working with Collegewise removed much of the stress of the college admissions process and we had a SUPERB outcome. Our son is now off to the college that was his first choice and is very happy. He was accepted at the University of Colorado Boulder, Leeds School of Business. We can’t thank Collegewise enough!

My daughter had a very positive experience with her Collegewise counselor. Collegewise helped her with her essay and the Common Application, and also in evaluating colleges that would be a good fit for her.
