Liz Gyori pattern

Liz Gyori, College Counselor

After engaging with hundreds of students as a college marketing professor and launching her own three children into competitive universities (she’s the proud parent of a documentary filmmaker, a mechanical engineer, and an aspiring human rights attorney), Liz realized her knack for mentoring young adults. She spends time getting to know what makes each student “tick” and is just as comfortable guiding a struggling student as she is supporting a National Merit scholar. Liz is keenly aware of the pressures that students and their families face during this season of their lives, and she is committed to making the college admissions process a positive and encouraging experience for all involved.

Before joining Collegewise, Liz earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Illinois, and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, she worked as a graduate school application reader and a candidate interviewer, and later served as an alumni interviewer for undergraduate admissions right here in the South Bay. In addition to her years of teaching marketing and communications classes, Liz also worked as a writer and a consumer products brand manager (fun fact: Liz met her husband in Chicago at The Quaker Oats company, where he worked on the Cap’n Crunch brand and she worked on the Instant Quaker Oatmeal team).

When the two of them are not eating breakfast together, Liz loves to cycle and hike the coastline or escape with one of the books that need to be read for the (way too many) book clubs she’s joined. In her spare time, she volunteers for a college readiness program near downtown Los Angeles, helping low-income students with their University of California and California State University applications.
