I really enjoyed how Maureen set goals for me to complete each week because it helped me to stay on track and avoid procrastination. She also had a lot of insight into details that I wouldn't have otherwise known would benefit my application, such as explaining why I didn't visit a school, submitting an arts portfolio, and naming and describing the pieces in the portfolio well. Compared to my experience applying to college last year, where I didn't work with a counselor, completing my applications this year was much less stressful and felt a lot more manageable.

What an outstanding experience it was to work with Maureen Hinkis at Collegewise. From helping me select schools that were the best fit, to providing me with feedback to help my applications stand out, to transforming my admissions essays, working with Maureen was one of the best decisions that my parents and I ever made. I cannot thank Maureen and Collegewise enough.
JARED SKIDMORE COLLEGE
Maureen’s terrific rapport with her students and spot-on advice to both students and parents make her an exceptional college consultant. Applying to college today is so highly competitive and can be a daunting experience. Hiring Maureen and Collegewise to help navigate through the admissions process was invaluable. Maureen empowers the student to be true to their own interests. Her depth of knowledge, encouragement, feedback, and the quality of her comments were most impressive. We could not have done this without her and gotten the same outstanding results. Thank you so much, Maureen and Collegewise.
SHARON, PARENT OF JARED SKIDMORE COLLEGE
Without Collegewise, we would not have been able to get to where we are today. The guidance, the professionalism, and personal attention has been extraordinary. From the initial college night meeting at the Collegewise offices to sharing the joy of acceptances, we’ve felt like Maureen has been part of this journey with us, on our team. Thank you.

I loved my experience with Collegewise! My essays really came together and I could not have done it without Maureen! The process was easy and the feedback was always clear. It made the whole process much more manageable.

Maureen was a lifesaver. We would not have made it through the process without her. She provided exceptional direction and guidance and most of all kept us sane throughout the process. She was the voice of reason that got us through when we became overwhelmed or stressed. I cannot say enough wonderful things about her and would recommend her to anyone who needs help with the college application process.

At the ripe, old age of 16, Maureen became her own college counselor. Her high school counselor seemed to be “phoning it in”, so she took initiative, did some research, and counseled her way into her dream school: The College of William & Mary. After earning her B.A. in History there, she co-founded Tribe College Outreach, a mentorship program that paired undergraduates with local high school students to help them through the college admission process. She then moved on to Hunter College to receive her M.S. in Elementary Education, and shortly after, was selected from a pool of 35,000 applicants for Teach for America. As a part of that initiative, she taught for two years at La Cima Elementary in Brooklyn, a NYC public school in a low-income community.
Maureen has served as a school counselor and intervention coordinator for Uncommon Schools North Star Academy in Newark, NJ, where she founded their Comprehensive School Counseling program; served as a case manager; and managed academic, personal, and crisis counseling services to support students. Most recently, she taught Social Studies at Forte Preparatory Charter School in Queens, NY.
When Maureen is not assisting students and engaging young minds, she is doing yoga, hiking, bowling (something she claims to be awful at—we doubt it!), and hanging out with her rescue dog, Gemma.
