Jesse Chavez, College Counselor

For Jesse Chavez, college counseling isn’t just a job—it’s a calling rooted in mentorship, community, and self-discovery. With expertise honed from nearly a decade of counseling at some of the most respected independent schools in the country, Jesse has written hundreds of letters of recommendation, co-taught college planning classes, redesigned school profiles, and hosted countless admissions events. He has guided hundreds of students through the college admissions process, many of whom earned acceptances from schools like UCLA, Carnegie Mellon, Dartmouth, MIT, Stanford, Duke, Colorado School of Mines, USC, University of Washington, UT Austin, University of Michigan, Northeastern, Colorado College, and RPI.

Jesse is affectionately known amongst colleagues as a “counselor’s counselor.” He honors college counseling as a craft in which true professionals continuously make progress towards mastery, always keeping students at the center of the work. He’s an active member of several admissions and counseling associations, and he frequently contributes to conversations on access, identity, and student wellness.

Jesse’s background also includes coaching basketball, working as an EMT, and volunteering with student leadership and equity committees—experiences that deepen his ability to connect with students as whole people, not just applicants. He helps students cut through the noise of college admissions, uncover what truly matters to them, express it in powerful, compelling ways that resonate with admissions readers.

As Jesse puts it:

“I may not understand multivariable calculus, but I know what excellence looks like—and I help students recognize that in themselves. My job is to help them see their own potential and tell their story with honesty and purpose.”

Outside of work, Jesse can often be found traveling, hitting the links (golf is his latest obsession), and throwing dinner parties.
