It felt like we sent Blake on a journey in a faraway land, and he got a tour guide who told him what paths to try and which to turn away from. Not having been in this strange land ourselves, as parents, our greatest fear was we would give wrong directions. Great experience, comfortable for Blake from start to finish!

Collegewise helped make my daughter’s college application process smooth and painless. In the end, my daughter was accepted to and will be attending her first choice school, USD. I could not be more thrilled for Alana, and I owe so much to Collegewise for making my daughter’s dream school a reality!

Collegewise provided me with a better understanding of the college application and decision process than I thought possible. Collegewise’s guidance throughout the process allowed me to really figure out what I was looking for in a college, while also maximizing my options.

I would often be stressed about what I needed to get done or about how things were turning out, but every time I walked out of the office, I was so at ease. I think the most important part about being at Collegewise was how personalized the process was, and how much care and time and effort went into me specifically.

Going to my meetings at Collegewise never felt like a chore, but more as something to look forward to! Everyone in the office is so friendly, willing to help, and made for such great motivators and supporters when it came time to fill in apps and write essays. 10/10!

The college application process is confusing and tedious, and Collegewise really helped with that process. It was reassuring to go over my application with my counselor so that we could make sure that I had a better chance of getting in!

Katrina Austria Marrero is an educator at heart. More so than a books-and-classroom type of way, Katrina focuses on building up human potential and providing learning opportunities for people to be the best versions of themselves. And what better way to do that by leaping into the college counseling world? Katrina transitioned from being a classroom teacher to a college counselor at KIPP Austin Public Schools where she increased college matriculation after her first year by 18%. In addition, her approach to training counselors increased college acceptance rates from 83% to 100% to the most selective colleges.
Then, she dipped her toe into IEC work as a counselor/trainer with GetAccepted (now The Princeton Review) where she designed and scaled an admissions program that served 5,000+ students per cycle. After that, she returned to Uplift Education as the Dean of College Prep and Strategic Partnerships, where she managed counselors, intervention specialists, and teachers to implement an intervention program supporting their most at-risk students. In 2018, Katrina served under the Office of Undergraduate Admissions with the Diversity Outreach Cohort at Stanford University where she was able to help sculpt their most diverse freshmen class yet. In addition to reading all those supplemental essays, she worked closely with the QuestBridge team to identify strong applicants.
Katrina earned her bachelor's in political science from Santa Clara University and then earned her master's in secondary education, curriculum, and instruction from Texas A&M University - Commerce. Meeting with Katrina feels like a chatting with an older sister or cool aunt. Having supported students through all stages of their academic careers, she is excited to help students redefine their version of success, so they can find environments where they'll thrive and engage in their communities.
