Kirsten Hanson-Press, College Counselor

Kirsten is the director of the Collegewise affiliate office in Los Angeles. She is also one of the premier-level counselors with over 14 years of counseling experience.

Kirsten is passionate about making the search for an educational fit less stressful and more accessible, which is no small feat in today’s world of college admissions. As her testimonials reflect, Kirsten forms trusting and supportive relationships with her students and families and guides them to fantastic outcomes.

Applying to college can be an exciting time for self-reflection, articulation, and agency for students on the precipice of adulthood. Kirsten’s holistic philosophy focuses on guiding her students toward strong college admissions outcomes while also providing the clarity needed for a successful transition.

Education has been a lifelong interest for Kirsten and the focus of her studies at UCLA. She previously served as the executive director for the non-profit Parents Education League of Los Angeles, helping parents navigate the often bumpy road of school choice.

Kirsten’s hidden talent is creative production. She spent over a decade as a commercial and music video producer for many projects, including the infamous final music video for Biggie Smalls. Managing creative artists was a surprisingly fun and helpful tool for connecting with teens and allowed her to use her storyboarding skills to map out their interests and paths.

Kirsten’s students have found their homes at many outstanding colleges including; American, Barnard, Bard, Berkeley, Boulder, Brown, Bucknell, Carnegie Mellon, Case Western, Claremont McKenna, Cornell, Columbia, Dartmouth, Duke, Georgetown, George Washington, Haverford, Kenyon, Lehigh, Miami, Michigan, NYU, New School, Oberlin, Oregon, Parsons, Penn, Pomona, Purdue, Santa Clara, Sarah Lawrence, Scripps, Stanford, SMU, Tufts, Tulane, UCLA, USC, Villanova, Washington University St. Louis, Wesleyan, Wisconsin, Yale, and universities throughout the UK and Canada as well.
