Collegewise provided me with a better understanding of the college application and decision process than I thought possible. Collegewise’s guidance throughout the process allowed me to really figure out what I was looking for in a college, while also maximizing my options.

I would often be stressed about what I needed to get done or about how things were turning out, but every time I walked out of the office, I was so at ease. I think the most important part about being at Collegewise was how personalized the process was, and how much care and time and effort went into me specifically.

Going to my meetings at Collegewise never felt like a chore, but more as something to look forward to! Everyone in the office is so friendly, willing to help, and made for such great motivators and supporters when it came time to fill in apps and write essays. 10/10!

The college application process is confusing and tedious, and Collegewise really helped with that process. It was reassuring to go over my application with my counselor so that we could make sure that I had a better chance of getting in!

Julie Brasseaux, College Counselor
After earning a Master’s in Counselor Education at UT Austin, Julie joined the admissions office at Tulane University (her own undergraduate alma mater), where she spent the next seven years evaluating more than 10,000 applications for admissions. During her tenure, Julie also personally led the Community Service Fellowship scholarship team, trained a dozen new members of the school’s admissions team, created the Spring Scholars January Admit abroad program, and managed the application process for Tulane’s accelerated BS/MD combined medical program.
While she has a broad knowledge of college admissions that allows her to work confidently with students with a wide range of backgrounds and colleges of interest, Julie particularly enjoys connecting with Jewish families, and is sensitive to the recent rise in antisemitism on both college campuses and across the world. A born Houstonian who also served as Tulane’s Texas Regional Assistant Director for over five years, Julie is also very knowledgeable about Texas high schools (having visited nearly 100 of them) and has found this to be an additional strength when advising Texan students.
An approachable counselor who’s been described by families and peers as “a great explainer” and was voted “most organized” in the Tulane Admission Office, Julie aspires to bring a much-needed sense of calm to both students and parents during this time. Anxiety has infected the college admissions process for many families. Left unchecked, it creates vision of failure in advance, and distracts focus from those elements that are within a student’s control. Julie experienced this anxiety herself first-hand as a high school student applying to college. Her ability to empathize with those worries creates the necessary trust and space for her to dispel them for her students and to gently redirect their attention to more productive matters.
A two-time school spelling bee champ in both 4th and 8th grades, Julie still catches the National Spelling Bee on television every year. When she’s not counseling or spelling words like “scherenschnitte” (the Swiss/German art of papercutting), Julie can be found listening to Taylor Swift, watching reality TV competition shows, and spending time with her husband, Brogan, and their dog, Millie.
