Kate Coffman, College Counselor

Kate has spent her entire professional career in higher education, both evaluating students as an admissions officer and guiding them as a college counselor. Her college counseling students have been accepted to over 100 colleges, including Cornell, Yale, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Notre Dame, University of Virginia, Tufts, Boston College, William and Mary, University of Toronto, University of Washington, Oberlin College, University of North Carolina, University of Wisconsin, and University of Maryland.

While her Collegewise students run the gamut in terms of their academic achievements and college interests, Kate works particularly well with solid B students seeking the right college environment to thrive, high-achieving young women who are open to feedback from a trusted advisor, and boys who need a strong project manager to get things done (a skill she developed having raised two sons).

In 2025, Kate was selected as a Counseling Team Lead at Collegewise, a role in which she oversees a team of counselors to ensure they are successful and engaged at work. Testimonials from Kate’s families frequently cite that she makes the parent’s job easier, she connects with their child, and she helps students discover opportunities they didn't know existed. A first-generation college student herself, Kate appreciates just how transformative higher education can be for any student who commits to making the most of it while they are in college. It’s that transformation—one which can be found at hundreds (and hundreds) of colleges—that drives Kate’s work. In her words:

I love this age and I enjoy helping students figure out their next chapter. College can be so life-changing – full of growth and development, fun and friends, knowledge and exploration. I want to help students experience all college has to offer, not just get into the place that will get them the best job.

A parent of two boys who successfully navigated their way to college with some help from Mom, Kate understands what parents are going through when watching their own kids prepare to leave the nest for college. This might also explain why Kate connects well with young men who don’t always want to listen to their parents.
