Nicole is not only an incredibly skilled and well-versed college counselor who served a vital role in my application process, but she is also the smartest, kindest and most understanding person. Nicole didn’t just want to help me get into my dream school, but she also wanted to build a relationship with me. Our meetings were completely stress free and never felt like work. In fact, she alleviated so much of the anxiety I had during the process. Not only was she an incredibly helpful person in the process, but she was a reliable friend. As a procrastinator, Nicole was able to keep me on track to ensure all supplements, essays and all necessary tasks were handled well before their deadline. She ultimately led me to apply to schools that were a perfect fit for me. Without Nicole, I wouldn’t have been able to reflect on what it was I actually wanted for my college experience. She is so helpful in the brainstorming process, that I actually left most meetings excited to write my essays and supplements. She helped me recognize which schools I would actually love.

We are so grateful for Nicole’s guidance through the whole college admissions process. Her indepth knowledge of extracurricular activies, internships and classes, enriched Claire’s high school experience. I oftened joked with my family that she is a “walking encyclopedia”. Once the application process started, Nicole provided advice, timelines, and information about all the prospective universities for Claire. She had vast knowledge and information about each college selection. She created an experience that could have been be very stressful, into an experience that was interesting and exciting. She gave logistical and emotional support for the challenging task of applying to colleges and writing the essays. Her timelines made the tasks feel manageable and enjoyable. Most importantly, Nicole deeply cares about her students.. She celebrates their accomplishmets and emotionally supports their dissappointments. When Claire looks back on her teenage years, Nicole will be a key adult in her development. We can never thank you her enough for her logistical and emotional support!!

Our counselor, Nicole Pilar, was very engaging and connected well with our daughter. Her knowledge across the entire college application spectrum was instrumental in helping us develop the final list of schools and understand the differences between the various types of applications and due dates. We are absolutely convinced that Nicole, along with her team, provided a tremendous value add to our daughter’s personal statement and all the various essays. They drove the process, provided timely feedback and constructive edits for each essay until they were satisfied with the final product, all the while being both supportive and committed to staying on schedule. We would never have been able to submit applications to 12 schools by their due dates without Nicole and her team.

Nicole was insightful, helpful, professional, empathetic, and brilliant in her craft. She guided our family through all the important decisions from class choices in HS to application readiness. We felt so ease and comfortable with Nicole, that our younger daughter in 10th grade will also be working with Nicole!

Nicole Pilar was a perfect fit for both of our kids! Nicole is a Renaissance gal who is well-versed in, and passionate about, a variety of fields of study. She was so good at brainstorming what colleges would be a good fit for each of our kids based on their passions. As parents, it was a huge relief to have her help with the process, because it is daunting. She was always there to answer questions or give advice, and she somehow made it exciting and fun instead of dreadful (which it would have been without her)! We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Nicole--she is such a gem!

Nicole Pilar, College Counselor
Nicole graduated from Pitzer College in Claremont, CA where she also worked as an outreach coordinator for the Claremont Colleges Debate Union, overseeing hundreds of tournaments across the LA metro area and tabulating middle and high school national championships. She took her love of debate with her to Bulgaria on a Fulbright Scholarship. For two years, she taught English, explored Europe, and counselled many of her 400 students through the college application process to universities in Bulgaria, the UK, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and the US. Her students have gone on to attend, among others, Purdue, UCLA, University of Washington, SMU, Wake Forest, Princeton University, and the University of Southern California.
Originally from NorCal, Nicole loves her SoCal residency and frequently takes advantage of all it has to offer, including such important highlights as In-N-Out’s shakes, discounted Disneyland annual passes, the beach, and—of course—Costco. In her free time, Nicole will be found reading The Economist, smelling bath bombs at LUSH, judging contestants on “The Bachelor/ette” and geeking out about all things college.
