Collegewise provided me with a better understanding of the college application and decision process than I thought possible. Collegewise’s guidance throughout the process allowed me to really figure out what I was looking for in a college, while also maximizing my options.

I would often be stressed about what I needed to get done or about how things were turning out, but every time I walked out of the office, I was so at ease. I think the most important part about being at Collegewise was how personalized the process was, and how much care and time and effort went into me specifically.

Going to my meetings at Collegewise never felt like a chore, but more as something to look forward to! Everyone in the office is so friendly, willing to help, and made for such great motivators and supporters when it came time to fill in apps and write essays. 10/10!

The college application process is confusing and tedious, and Collegewise really helped with that process. It was reassuring to go over my application with my counselor so that we could make sure that I had a better chance of getting in!

Katrina Austria Marrero, College Counselor
Meeting Katrina feels like chatting with an older sister or cool aunt who has over 15 years of experience in education. Katrina has worked with students as a teacher, counselor, and high school vice principal. She worked in undergraduate admissions at Stanford University where she reviewed thousands of freshmen and transfer applications, and at the University of Texas at Austin where she reviewed scholarship applications and determined finalists and recipients. She specializes in working with students seeking admissions to highly selective colleges with various majors and has a knack for guiding students’ voices and developing them into college essays. She is acutely aware of what colleges want from extra-curricular activities and helping students demonstrate their interests.
Katrina knows not only what it takes for students to succeed, but to thrive in and after college. She is a resilient advocate for all of her students and genuinely believes that fit is more important than college rankings. She has seen, first hand, that success is more so defined by students’ achievements rather than a college’s reputation.Having supported students through all stages of their academic careers, she is excited to help students redefine their version of success, so they can find environments where they'll thrive and engage in their communities.
Katrina is a San Francisco native and a Central Texas resident. After receiving her BS in Political Science with a minor in Ethnic Studies and Dance from Santa Clara University, she went on to earn her M. Ed in Curriculum and Instruction at Texas A&M University. Additionally, Katrina earned her certification in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University. She lives with her husband, her two sons (who may or may not zoom bomb her meetings), and their cat, Thumper (who is also known to zoom bomb meetings).
