Quick answer:

The University of California (UC) application deadline for fall 2027 admission is November 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. PT. The same deadline applies to freshmen and transfer applicants at all nine UC campuses. The UCs do not offer early action, early decision, or restrictive early action. Students who apply earlier in the submission window (October 1 to November 30, 2026) will not have their application reviewed until after the application period closes.

“When are UC applications due?” is one of the most common questions we hear from families every fall. The short answer is above. But this guide covers the rest of the 2026-2027 cycle for students applying this year: when the application opens, how the deadline works across all nine campuses, transfer dates, decisions, and a checklist for the final weeks before you submit.

Everything here comes from the counselors behind the annual Collegewise University of California (UC) Guide, which is expertly crafted by Collegewise counselors and former UC admissions officers. So be sure to download that resource after reviewing the content listed below.

When are UC applications due?

UC applications for the fall 2027 application cycle are due November 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time (PT). That deadline is the same for freshman and transfer applicants and for all campuses. You can start the application on August 1 and submit it between October 1 and November 30, and submitting earlier in that window doesn’t change how (and when) your application is read.

This year, November 30 is the Monday after Thanksgiving, so plan to finish your application before the holiday weekend rather than counting on those few days as extra time. It may even be a better decision to apply a few days before Thanksgiving to keep the long weekend as a buffer.

Which UC campuses have the November 30 deadline?

All nine undergraduate campuses use the same application and the same deadline:

  • UC Berkeley
  • UC Davis
  • UC Irvine
  • UCLA (Los Angeles)
  • UC Merced
  • UC Riverside
  • UC San Diego
  • UC Santa Barbara
  • UC Santa Cruz

You will fill out one application and choose as many campuses as you like. Each campus then reads your application on its own. Campuses do not see where else you applied and do not compare evaluations.

What if I miss the UC deadline?

UC doesn’t publish a late-application process, so treat November 30 as final. UC occasionally extends the deadline for everyone, as it did for the fall 2026 cycle when it moved the date to December 1. But don’t count on it happening again.

If something goes wrong on your end, contact the admissions office immediately. A campus may decide to consider a late application, but that is at the discretion of the institution.

To avoid any last-minute mishaps, aim to submit your application before November 30.

Does UC have early action or early decision?

No. The UCs have no early action, early decision, or restrictive early action round. Every applicant applies by the same November 30 deadline.

When are early applications due for freshman students?

Another important point to consider when applying to a UC is that none of the campuses offer early deadlines. The claim that applying to colleges through the early round may increase a student’s chances of admission doesn’t apply to the UCs.

If you’re a student also applying early to other private colleges, those deadlines (often November 1 or 15) come just before the UC deadline, so be sure to keep track of them anyway.

When are early applications due for transfer students?

Depending on whether a student is applying as an incoming freshman or a transfer student, there are some nuances between what is required for each type of application. However, many of the key deadlines are the same.

The one transfer date that comes earlier is the Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG), which is filed between September 1 and 30.

UC Campus Deadlines: Full Breakdown

The application deadline and the deadline to accept an offer are the same at every campus. What differs is the extra steps a few campuses add, from supplemental applications to appeal processes. The table shows the systemwide dates, and the notes below cover campuses that do something different.

Where individual campuses differ

  • UC Berkeley lists the date your decision will be posted in the confirmation email you receive after submitting. Transfer applicants to some Berkeley majors also have extra forms due January 31.
  • UCLA requires supplemental applications for some programs, including the School of Arts and Architecture and the Herb Alpert School of Music. Those are due between early December and late January.

Some campuses (UC Merced and UC Riverside) have spring and winter-term filing periods with deadlines different from the fall. UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Santa Cruz follow the systemwide calendar with no extra steps.

UC Transfer Application Deadlines

Transfer applicants follow the same November 30 deadline as freshmen, but they have more dates around it: an earlier guarantee option, a mid-year grade update, and a later acceptance deadline. Here’s the full fall 2027 transfer calendar.

Are transfer students guaranteed a spot at a UC?

Some are, but not all. Six campuses offer TAG to California community college students who complete specific courses with a minimum GPA: UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Santa Cruz. UC’s TAG matrix lists each campus’s requirements by major.

Planning tools for transfer applicants

Transfer planning is more involved than the freshman path because your community college courses have to line up with UC requirements. UC offers three free tools for transfer applicants:

  1. ASSIST shows which community college courses count toward UC requirements and majors.
  2. Transfer Admission Planner (TAP) tracks your coursework and process.
  3. Transfer Pathways lays out the preparation for 20+ popular majors that work across campuses.

What are the UC admissions requirements?

To be eligible as a freshman, you need two things:

  1. 15 “A-G” courses completed with a C or better, with at least 11 of them finished before senior year.
  2. A GPA of at least 3.0 in those courses (3.4 for students who aren’t California residents).

Meeting those minimum requirements makes you eligible, not admitted. UC admissions officers review applications holistically, looking at every aspect of the application content. This means that students with strong GPAs are not guaranteed to gain admission. This is especially true at the most selective campuses such as UCLA or UC Berkeley.

Additionally, California students in the top 9% of their high school class may also qualify for a guaranteed spot at a campus. The caveat is that it may not be your top-choice UC. Read what the UC ELC program is.

The Final Four Weeks Before Deadlines: A Checklist for Parents

With November 30 on the Monday after Thanksgiving, the last stretch is shorter than it looks. Here’s what to check with your student before the holiday this year:

  • Personal Insight Questions drafted. Students answer four of the eight questions, up to 350 words each. By early November, all four should be in full draft, so the last few weeks go to revision.
  • Transcript entries checked. Students must self-report grades and coursework. Check each line against the actual transcript. Any mismatches or blatant misrepresentation of grades, course titles, or honors designations may cost a student their offer letter.
  • Activities list reviewed. There’s room for up to 20 entries, each with a description of up to 350 characters. Read it together to ensure nothing is missing: jobs, family responsibilities, or summer programs.
  • Family details confirmed. Residency, household size, and income determine fee waivers and scholarship considerations, so a parent should confirm these are accurate.
  • Campuses and alternate majors chosen. Fees are non-refundable once you submit, so finalize the list before your teen goes to submit.
  • Common App plans coordinated. The UC doesn’t use the Common App, but if your teen is applying to colleges through the Common App, it’s a good idea to check that they’ve met all the requirements and deadlines of other institutions so it doesn’t interfere with their UC application.
  • Submit before Thanksgiving. Try to nudge your teen to apply before the long weekend, so those extra days can be used as a buffer in case any problems arise, such as a slow site or technical glitch.

Avoid these common UC application mistakes

Not applying to every UC campus you’re willing to attend

The campuses don’t coordinate to admit you to only one, and they can’t see what other campus you applied to. If you’d happily attend a campus, apply. Don’t assume applying to UC Berkeley (for example) may interfere with your UCLA application in any way. Just be sure to budget for the $80 fee per campus ($95 for international students). Applying to all nine campuses will run your family $720 ($855 for international students), so spend some time considering college fit before you click every box.

Leaving out valuable information

UC’s review is holistic. If something outside your control affected your schooling, such as a move, family responsibilities, illness, or anything else you believe is important, say so. The Additional Comments section exists for students to provide context.

Focusing on quantity over quality

Activities show readers how you spend your time and what you care about. Twenty slots are the maximum number of activities a student can list on their application, but that doesn’t mean they should add activities for the sake of filling up space. Be specific, be intentional, and prioritize recency.

UC Deadline Frequently Asked Questions

When do UC decisions come out?

Freshman decisions are released between March 1 and March 32, 2027, but a few campuses may post decisions earlier. Transfer decisions come out between March 1 and May 1, 2027.

Does submitting the UC application early help?

No. There is no advantage or disadvantage to submitting earlier or later within the October 1 to November 30 window. Submitting early only helps you avoid last-minute hiccups.

Is the UC deadline the same for out-of-state and international students?

Yes. Everyone applying for the fall 2027 cycle must submit by November 30, 2026. International applicants are required to pay a higher fee of $95 per campus.

Do the UCs accept the Common App?

No. The UC uses its own application, with Personal Insight Questions instead of a personal statement, self-reported grades instead of a transcript, and no letters of recommendation.

When is the UC transfer deadline?

November 30, 2026, for the fall 2027 cycle.

When is the deadline to accept a UC offer?

May 1, 2027, for freshmen and June 1, 2027, for transfer applicants.
